Darling in the Frankxx

I broke my anime-watching rule

My golden rule when watching anime is to never watch a series that is unfinished.  By that I mean, only watch series that have ended.  This allows me to binge-watch or at least to always have the next episode available.  I suppose this satisfies a sense of control.  However, I think more important for me is that this way I do not have to wait a week for the next episode.  Like all of us who enjoy good movies or stories:  I want to find out what happens next.

Once again, I was looking for my next almost favorite anime.  As I have mentioned before, my favorite of all time is Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood (FMAB).  The original, Full Metal Alchemist (FMA), is also great.  It's just missing the complete and satisfying ending that ties up the loose ends and that fully let's us know the main characters, who usually beome our friends by the end of the series, are done with the adventure, either in triumph or death, and perhaps on to the next one.

I have come to rely on youtube summaries, usually titled something such as "The top 10 action romance animes."  (Note, that is but one of the many, many versions available on youtube, so I post it here only as an example.) Yes, I have found the action-romance to be my favorite.  The romance is usually understated, like in FMAB and FMA. but it can also be more upfront and center, like in Sword Art Online.

Well, I happened to be vewing a poor Top-10-action-romance-anime version.  On the right-hand of the page, this image caught my eye:

I clicked on it and liked the presentation focus on characters.  The animation looked good.  I immediately searched for a subtitled version of "Darling in the Frankxx."  I found it on KickAssAnime (https://www7.kickassanime.io/anime/darling-in-the-franxx).  I clicked on the link to episode #1 and was blown away by the story-telling and the artwork and animation.  However, the character voices and the purposeful and dramatic story was clearly special.  It was serious---that is, the anime presented itself telling a story that mattered.

I continued watching through episode #3, and then I realized the anime series was not finished!!!  However, I was hooked and knew i was on my journey to parhaps watching an anime that might unseat FMAB as my favorite of all time.

Next up, I will write about something else I have never done: watch reviews and reactions to anime episiodes.  Afterwards, I will begin to review the episodes.  If I include spoilers, I will indicate so in the introducttion.  As I write this, I am just a few days after watching episode #6 and am currently waiting eagerly for episode #7.
